After
focusing on its range Range Rover, the British firm returns to more
practical considerations: now in occupant of renewing its models called
"leisure" Land Rover took the opportunity to create a new range, called
Discovery, including Discovery Sport will be the first offspring. Before
arriving in the French concessions on 5 March, is in the corridors of
the Paris Motor Show as the latest in the brand shows off its strengths,
especially its versatility.
The Freelander is dead, long live the Discovery Sport: this is indeed
under this name that the third generation of the English model is
emerging as the rhinestones and the spotlight of the Paris Salon.
More than a name change, this new term Announces Discovery range, more
focused on the "leisure" as emphasized by the manufacturer.
Announced last fall at the revelation of Discovery restyled, who
proudly wore the name-said on its hood, this new range is étrennée by
the Discovery Sport, who will be joined in a few months by the Discovery
"tout court" ( on the same pattern as the range range with the range
Rover and range Rover Sport).
With its size of 4 meters 59, the Discovery Sport arises competitor Audi Q5, BMW X3 or Mercedes GLK.
But by offering the option of two additional seats (charged € 1,300),
English also eye to customer Nissan X-Trail and Mitsubishi Outlander
among others.
And it is not only in term benefits that the latest Land Rover finds
himself "in between": aesthetically, despite his membership in the
Discovery range, the newcomer furiously inspired by the Range Rover
Evoque.
At the front, headlights and bumpers as well recall very clearly the
little Range: If we would have liked a less resemblance, the Discovery
Sport has well despite everything, the big 19-inch wheels on which were
encamped ballroom models helping very certainly.
The C-pillar (between the third side window) recalls, however, the
relationship with the Discovery "classic", and also with the Freelander,
but here it is more inclined, which makes it relatively dynamic
profile.
A good impression which is found inside: front and rear, the feeling of
space is breathtaking: the panoramic roof and beige colors of one of
the models on display undoubtedly distort our judgment. The quality of materials and finish seem to suffer from any criticism.
However, we would have liked a less archaic design of the center
console: the small squares aerators disappointing on a car of 2014.
Another disappointment, at least for the editors of Auto Blog, the
stalk, including windows (the same as in the Jaguar XE), which are
relatively cheap.
The fact remains that the internal atmosphere of the Discovery Sport is
very nice, and the feeling of space referred to above is not an
impression: the trunk, with a load volume of 541 liters of
(configuration 5 places), should prove very convenient to use with a
square cut trunk and the low loading sill.
The third row of seats available as an option (or rather the two
folding seats), they are, as is often the case, dedicated to children
and of course trips. We can rail against the enormous trustest headers of two folding seats, which hinder the rear vision.
Chapter engines, the Discovery Sport is inspired again the Evoque two
diesels (150hp TD4 and SD4 190ch) and Si4 petrol engine developing 240hp
will be available at launch, pending an unprecedented 2.0 diesel
"Ingenium" ED4 that, with emissions of 119 g CO2 per km, escape the tax
penalty unlike other engines, which will all be coupled to the wheel
drive (offer two-wheel drive is not available at launch).
As for equipment, the list goes on: HDC (question-down), Magnetic Ride
damping control, new management for Dynamic Terrain Response (new
management of the accelerator, clutch and differential, steering ),
recognition of maximum speed signs permitted (stereo camera located at
the foot of the rearview mirror) ... no doubt, the Discovery Sport will
have fun making the Range. In this regard, I invite you to read the section of Frederick, which details the equipment that replaced the Freelander .
Offered at an entry fee of € 34,600 (or € 3,000 less than a Mercedes
GLK single propulsion), the range of the Discovery Sport however will
peak at € 54,900 without options (see tables of rates and finishes).
Combining the practical aspects of a Land Rover with the amenities of a
Range, the Discovery Sport offers a synthesis successful first sight. For the same price, you can opt for a Evoque, more "design" but much less practical.
